Anxiety Avoidance Drives Away Fun
Overplanning is a huge issue within those of us who are anxious perfectionists. We try to plan out everything to ensure that nothing goes wrong. However, there is a problem, and George Bernard Shaw voices it well: "Consistency is the enemy of enterprise, just as symmetry is the enemy of art." When thinking about life, it’s beauty lies in the messiness, in the creativity of it all. Planning out everything takes away opportunities for getting resourceful, stretching beyond one’s comfort zone, and making new discoveries. Newness is the spice of life that we all crave, at least at some level, because newness is the opposite of boredom. If life has been feeling lifeless lately, ask yourself if you’ve been planning things out and whether or not you have room for more spontaneity. You might enjoy it more than you realize.
"Consistency is the enemy of enterprise, just as symmetry is the enemy of art."
