Appreciating Our Own Imperfections

Perfectionism is often hard to let go of, especially for us overachiever types. We think of ourselves as a project to forever cultivate and shape. However, in doing so, we fail to take pleasure in what we are. We are like nature in many ways, and author Alice Walker described it as such: "In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways, and they're still beautiful." When we slow down to simply observe nature, which way it has chosen to grow, seeing the knots and scars in the bark, we find beauty and a story to appreciate. What would it feel like to observe yourself with those same eyes?

"In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways, and they're still beautiful."

~ Alice Walker
