Neurodivergent Greatness
When we notice what it means to be neurodivergent, it simply means to have a mind that diverges from what is expected, commonplace, that society is attuned to. For those of us with such minds, it can be hard because social structures aren’t set up for us. School settings, parenting tips, friendship norms, and dating rules are often putting us in a position where our needs aren’t well supported, and where we are forced to fit into the boxes set up for us. However, like Tori Amos says, "Some of the most wonderful people are the ones who don't fit into boxes." In fact, what makes our minds great is that we don’t fit into those boxes. We are often more creative because we question the limits of such boxes. We help find new solutions because we aren’t stuck thinking the same way as everyone else. So, if you ever feel shame or guilt for not fitting into the boxes laid out for you, consider whether you are meant to fit into those boxes in the first place.
