Power is Found in the Present
Sometimes people will roll their eyes when advised to practice mindfulness. I’ve been there myself, because it sounds so abstract. I’d like to put it more simply for us using words from Shams Tabrizi: "The past is a fog on our minds. The future? A complete dream. We can't neither guess the future, neither change the past." Mindfulness is asking you to stay in the present. By noticing our sensations, our breathing, and how our bodies feel, we are existing right there in the moment. Why is this mindset often advised when discussing wellness and mental health? Because we cannot do anything with the past, and the future doesn’t exist yet. The only time when we are ever here is now, and in our existence we find greater agency and power. Our energy and life-force exists in our actions, in what we feel in our bodies in the present. You want to feel more alive and strong? Find yourself where you actually exist and embody those characteristics.
"The past is a fog on our minds. The future? A complete dream. We can't neither guess the future, neither change the past."
