Talk Fuels Action

How does talking to someone actually help with feelings? When we spend dedicated time in therapy, it gives us the chance to actually reflect on the important things in life. We spend time really giving weight to how much those feelings impact us and thinking about what we really value in the world. Bryant H. McGill shares here in a metaphor why doing that is so vital: "Where wise actions are the fruit of life, wise discourse is the pollination." What he is getting to is that these conversations stir something in us that leads to action. When we talk about what matters to us, it fuels our bodies into action, to make what we want a reality. Our words spark the fire beneath us to create change. With friends and family, it is easy to get caught up in focusing so much on the day-to-day problems, but in therapy, because the goal is to work towards betterment, conversation stays focused on the deeper aspects of life, accelerating the gas pedal towards the future one actually wants.

"Where wise actions are the fruit of life, wise discourse is the pollination."

~ Bryant H. McGill
