Embracing Hope

A lot of people that come to see me get worried when we start talking about goals, because they don’t have any want for themselves beyond not feeling bad anymore. I often advise just thinking about areas of their life that could feel better, and starting there to begin thinking about what they hope therapy will do for them. Jim Carrey has this wise quote to think about topic, "Flowers don't worry about how they're going to bloom. They just open up & turn toward the light & that makes them beautiful." This is wise because sometimes we don’t need to plan out every step or outcome we’re looking for. Often, we just need to open up our hearts, allowing our pain to be witnessed and for hope to enter us, and we need to start moving towards what feels right. When that happens, we find the version of ourselves we never knew we wanted.

"Flowers don't worry about how they're going to bloom. They just open up & turn toward the light & that makes them beautiful."

~ Jim Carrey
