Happiness is Found in Your Handiwork
Many people come to therapy searching for a happier life. Certainly, they can find it there, but a happy life isn’t quite a destination, but a process, a way of looking at the collection of one’s experiences, an appreciation for the craft, to feel proud of one’s own handiwork. Keith Ferrazzi has a quote that gives this thought an image: "Life is less a quest than a quilt. We find meaning, love, and prosperity through the process of stitching together our bold attempts to help others find their own way in their lives. The relationships we weave become an exquisite and endless pattern." When you can look back, see your own growth, honor your hardships and learning curves, and treasure those relationships you’ve cultivated (no matter how long-lived they were), you can appreciate your life. You find happiness in appreciating the complexities of life, being present, making them varied and filled with your effort, full of color and areas of interest to look back upon.
