Scraping Off Trauma Barnacles

Sometimes people fear processing trauma because they aren’t sure of who they would be without it. Russian philosopher H. P. Blavatsky once made a similar commentary, “Is the scraping off of a barnacle the destruction of a ship?”, which has one consider how much are the pesky vermin we carry a part of us. While you don’t remember life without the trauma, is it worth keeping around? Doesn’t knowing that the trauma is harmful make it worth finding out who is underneath?

“Is the scraping off of a barnacle the destruction of a ship?”

~ H. P. Blavatsky (Russian philosopher)
