Social Justice Through Love
In remembering Martin Luther King Jr., Iām wanting to share a quote of his: "Justice is love correcting that which revolts against love." When I think of what revolts against love I think of hatred, fear, and violence. As a therapist, I think the opposite of love is trauma, both what causes trauma, and the many measures that one does to try to protect oneself from enduring more trauma. When I think of love in action is laughter, community, protection, and tears of empathy. Those in power are fearful of being powerless. It is traumatizing to be powerless, so those in power do whatever they can to protect themselves from it. What I think will overcome those in power from hurting others is love. The state of the world has been heavy on my mind lately, but I hope that we all have room in our hearts for more love for each other. Let that love lead a sense of justice into the world around us.
"Justice is love correcting that which revolts against love."
