Connection Takes Bravery

When you are scared, often the first thing we want to do is take action. We want to fight against what is instilling fear, shouting from rooftops, showing how big and strong we are. Even if we aren’t the type to fight, we then just want to get away from what bothers us. It isn’t comfortable to sit with what makes our skin crawl. As Winston Churchill once said, "Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen." If you want to make a change, you need to slow down, and observe for a bit, seeking to fully understand what is going on. We need to approach conflict from a place of curiosity and confidence, seeking to connect and collaborate in order to overcome these hardships. It takes courage to do that.

"Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen."

~ Winston Churchill
