Why Explore What Scares You
In therapy, we explore the things that scare you the most, including themes like abandonment, rejection, safety, losing control, etc. The reason we discuss them is to better understand how you relate to your fears, why they matter to you, what has happened in your life that has made you grow to fear them. By better understanding yourself and these dreads, we reduce how much they bother you. Scientist Marie Curie put it this way, "Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less." So, in the therapy office, we come together like a couple of scientists, exploring what bothers you without a form, those things that terrify you and are difficult to describe, what haunts you without you always noticing it there. Pick out a therapist you can trust to be your partner in this process and embrace the task of understanding more about yourself and your fears, so that way you no longer have to be apprehensive walking through life.
